DMTF Shares Redfish In-Band Host Interface Plans

  • DMTF Shares Redfish In-Band Host Interface Plans

DMTF’s innovative Redfish standard continues its fast progression, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Scalable Platforms Management Forum (SPMF). Now on version 2016.2 (recently released in final form), Redfish work to date has focused on defining a TCP/IP-based out-of-band interface between a client and a management controller.

As SPMF continues its open approach, responding to feedback and addressing the needs of the industry, the group’s Host Interface Task Force is working to add an in-band host interface to Redfish. This will allow applications and tools running on an Operating System (both deployment and production) to communicate with the Redfish service, which is managing the system using the Redfish API.

Work is well underway, and the group is sharing specifics in a public presentation detailing the efforts in progress, including the requirements, status and host interface models being used. With an aggressive development schedule,

SPMF’s goal is to provide version 1.0 of Host OS support in Redfish by the end of 2016.

To learn more about Redfish, see http://www.dmtf.org/standards/redfish or - for developers – visit the Redfish Developer Hub, a one-stop, in-depth technical resource with all the files, tools, community support and education you may need to help you use Redfish.
